Contentment

Summer rain painted with clouds,
And autumn skies.
This is what I love.

Rows of corn,
yellow like your hair in the sun…
The deep water of the old stone fountain…
Warm pears on a wooden table,
soft like your skin.
That is what I love.

Lying in the grass,
With my blue-eyed fat-cat,
Feeding me ardor
From his fingers,
Feeding me honey
From his lips.

This is what I five for.

A hero’s remnant

Above the rise,
In full summer’s color…
I shall lay, my love.
Under trees that bend,
Behind leafy drapes of green…
My sleep will never end.

Behold my fight!
The eerie shadows forth,
The glint of steel and rage,
As I begin my deadly dance
Upon my closing stage.

My knees are grounded…
And the grass,
Is soft, and sweet, and calling.
Your face appears …
And I forget,
The darkness that is crawling.

Below the sun,
Behind the green,
The battle cry is fading.
My breath has stopped…
Your vision lost…
And all my life is wading.

As dusk unfolds,
And dew descends,
The sound of swords has faded.
But all is well.
With fighting coin,
My life…for yours, I’ve traded.
